Costs

The cost of uPVC spraying depends on how many frames are being sprayed, how much masking and preparation they need, the colour, and whether doors, fascias or a conservatory are done at the same time. Because spraying keeps your existing frames in place, it avoids the cost of new windows when the frames themselves are sound.

We spray uPVC on site across Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset from our base in Cranbrook near Exeter. This page explains what goes into a spraying quote so you know what you are comparing.

What you are paying for

Most of the work in spraying is preparation. Every frame is cleaned and degreased, keyed so the coating can bond, and masked so the glass, seals, handles and surrounding brickwork stay clean. Only then is the specialist 2-pack coating applied in thin, even layers. The coating and the skill in applying it are what separate a lasting finish from paint that peels.

That is also why painting uPVC windows yourself costs less on the day but rarely lasts: ordinary paint does not bond properly to the plastic.

The main factors in window spraying cost

  • Number of windows and their size
  • How many small panes or bars need masking
  • One side or both sides of the frame
  • Colour choice, including dual colours
  • Condition: heavy staining or old paint takes more preparation
  • Access to upper floors
  • Other items sprayed at the same visit

Doors, garage doors and conservatories

Front door spraying cost depends on the door, its side panels and the frame. uPVC front and back doors, French doors and patio door frames can be sprayed in the same coating as the windows, which is the easiest way to get one matched colour across the house. Composite doors have a moulded skin rather than a uPVC face, so we check them at the survey before saying whether spraying will last.

Garage doors, fascias, soffits, cladding and conservatory frames can also be sprayed. A conservatory has a lot of frame and a lot of glass to mask, so its cost reflects the masking time as much as the coating. Aluminium frames can be looked at during the survey too; whether a coating suits depends on the existing finish.

Spraying cost compared with replacement

Spraying is usually far less disruptive than replacement: nothing is taken out, there is no making good around the frames, and spraying jobs are typically completed in one to two days. It only makes sense, though, when the frames are sound. If the hinges are failing, units are misted or the frames have dropped, money spent on a new colour is wasted, and we will tell you so.

As we fit replacement windows as well as spraying, we can quote both at one free survey and you can choose with the figures in front of you.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to spray uPVC windows?

It depends on the number and size of windows, how much masking they need, the colour and access. We give a free survey and a written quote for your own frames.

Is spraying cheaper than replacing windows?

When the frames are sound, spraying is usually the lower-cost way to change their colour because no new windows are needed. If the frames are failing, replacement is the better use of money.

Does spraying the inside as well cost more?

Yes, spraying both faces is more work than the outside only. Many people choose to spray just the outside and keep white frames inside.

Can you spray a composite front door?

It depends on the door. Composite doors have a moulded skin, so we inspect it at the survey and only recommend spraying if the coating will bond and last.
