Window pricing in the South West is quoted per opening, not per house, and the spread between the cheapest and the most expensive quote on the same job is often double. That is usually a specification difference rather than a rip off, so the useful skill is reading what is actually in the price.
The figures below are the ranges we see fitted across Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset. They include supply, fitting, making good and certification, because a price that excludes any of those is not comparable.
Typical fitted prices per opening
- uPVC casement, standard white, A rated: roughly £550 to £900 fitted
- uPVC flush casement in a heritage colour: roughly £750 to £1,200 fitted

What pushes the price up
Size and opening count matter more than most people expect. A single large fixed pane is cheaper than the same area split into three opening sashes, because each opener carries hardware, gaskets and labour.
- Coloured or dual coloured frames rather than standard white
- Obscure, acoustic, toughened or heritage slim glazing units
- Bays, arches, curved heads and non standard shapes
- Scaffold access, coastal exposure or awkward parking
- Structural repair behind the old frame once it comes out
Where you should not economise
Sealed unit quality, hardware and the fitting itself decide whether a window is still tight in fifteen years. Cheap spacer bars and unbranded locks are the usual reason a five year old window feels draughty and looks misted.
The second false economy is replacing frames that did not need replacing. If the frames and units are sound and you dislike the colour, spraying is the cheaper honest answer and we will say so at the survey.
How to compare three quotes properly
- Ask for the price per opening, not just a house total
- Check the glass specification, including U value and spacer type
- Confirm who registers the building regulations certificate
- Check what the guarantee covers and for how long
- Confirm making good, waste removal and the deposit terms in writing

Is a whole house cheaper than doing a few windows?
Usually yes per opening, because survey, delivery and set up costs are shared across the job. Phasing is still sensible if it means better specification on the elevations that suffer most.
Do you take large deposits?
No. We agree the installation dates in writing before any money changes hands and we never ask for a deposit against a job with no confirmed date.
Can spraying really replace new windows?
Only where the frames, hinges and sealed units are sound. Where they are, respraying gives you the colour change without the cost and disruption of replacement.
Is the quote fixed?
