Spraying uPVC Double Glazing

Much of the uPVC double glazing fitted in the nineties and two thousands is still perfectly sound. The frames are square, the glass is clear and the locks work. What has gone is the look: white that has yellowed, or brown that now dates the house.

Spraying treats the frame, not the glass. The windows stay in place, the sealed units are untouched, and the frames come out in a new colour with a durable finish.

How uPVC spraying works

Each frame is cleaned and degreased, then lightly abraded to give the coating a key. Glass, gaskets, handles, walls and sills are masked. The frames are then sprayed in situ with a two pack polyurethane coating colour matched to your chosen shade, and left to cure.

Is your double glazing suitable?

If a few units have failed, they can be replaced and the frames sprayed at the same visit. If most of the windows are failing, replacement is the better investment and we will say so.

What you can spray

Beyond windows, the same coating works on uPVC front and back doors, French and patio door frames, conservatory frames, fascias and soffits. Doing them together gives the whole outside of the house one matched colour.

Colour choice

Any RAL colour is available, along with Farrow & Ball and National Trust shades. Anthracite and other greys remain the most popular, with sage and heritage greens growing fast on cottages.

Time on site

Most houses are completed in one to two days. You can stay at home throughout, and windows can usually be opened again the same day once the coating has cured.

Spraying or replacing: the honest test

Ask three questions. Are the sealed units clear? Do the windows close tightly and lock? Are the frames free from cracks and warping? If the answer to all three is yes, spraying gives you a new look for a fraction of the cost of replacement, with far less disruption. If the answer to any is no, fix that first, either by replacing the failed units or the windows themselves. Because we do both spraying and replacement, the survey starts from the condition of your windows rather than from whichever service we would like to sell.
