Coloured Windows: Heritage and RAL Shades

White uPVC was the default for decades. Today, anthracite grey, sage and heritage greens, off whites and deep blues are what owners ask for, whether they are building new or tired of the look of their existing frames.

There are two honest routes to coloured windows. You can fit new frames made in the colour you want, or you can keep sound frames and have them sprayed on site. We do both, so we have no reason to push either.

Route one: new coloured frames

New uPVC windows come in woodgrain and heritage foils bonded in the factory, and aluminium frames are powder coated in almost any RAL. Timber is factory painted in traditional colours. Dual colour is common, so the outside can suit the street while the inside stays white or matches the room.

Coloured and dual coloured frames cost more than standard white. A heritage colour uPVC flush casement typically runs around £750 to £1,200 per opening fitted, compared with around £550 to £900 for white.

Route two: spray your existing windows

If your frames and glass are sound, on site spraying changes the colour without removing anything. Frames are degreased, keyed, masked and sprayed with a premium two pack coating, colour matched to any RAL, Farrow & Ball or National Trust shade, with our 10 year guarantee. Most homes are finished in one to two days.

Which route suits your home

• Frames solid, units clear, only the colour is wrong: spray
• Units misted, frames warped or draughty: replace
• Mixed condition: replace the failures, spray the rest to match
• Listed or conservation area: check the colour with the officer first

Choosing a colour that lasts

Colours that work with the stone, render or brick of the house age best. Grey tones such as anthracite and agate suit modern render; greens and off whites suit cottages and period terraces. We bring sample swatches to the survey so you can see them against the wall in daylight.

Doors, fascias and conservatories

Spraying also covers uPVC doors, garage doors, fascias and conservatory frames, so the whole outside of the house can be brought to one consistent colour.

Matching colours across the house

A common request is to bring windows, front door, garage door and fascias to one colour after years of mismatched replacements. That can combine both routes: new windows in a factory foil where replacement is needed, and on site spraying of the door and remaining frames in the matched RAL reference so everything reads as one. We confirm the exact colour code in writing on the quote.
