Aluminium Windows Cost
The factors that decide what aluminium windows cost on your house, and how to get a fair quote.
The cost of aluminium windows depends on how many openings you have, how big they are, how they open, the glass you choose and how easy the house is to work on. A national average tells you very little about your own home, so this page explains what actually moves the price and how to compare quotes properly.
We supply and fit aluminium windows across Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset from our base in Cranbrook near Exeter. Every quote starts with a free survey and is written per opening, so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Why aluminium windows cost more than uPVC
Aluminium frames are stronger than uPVC, which is what allows the slim sightlines and larger panes people choose them for. The profiles are powder-coated in colour, thermally broken to keep heat in, and assembled to tighter tolerances. That extra material and finishing is why aluminium windows usually cost more per opening than a comparable uPVC window.
What you get for the difference is a narrower frame, more glass, a coloured finish built into the frame and a window that suits wide openings and contemporary designs. Whether that is worth it depends on the house, and we will happily price uPVC alongside so you can decide.
The main cost drivers
Large or unusual shapes, bays and very tall windows take more material and more fitting time. Upper-floor openings that cannot be reached safely from ladders may need access equipment, which is priced separately rather than hidden.
- Number of openings and the size of each one
- Opening style: casement, flush casement, tilt and turn or fixed
- Glass: standard A-rated units, obscure, toughened or acoustic
- Colour: single colour, or different colours inside and out
- Hardware: handles, restrictors and locking options
- Access: ground floor, upper floors, scaffolding needs
- Making good: sills, reveals and any repairs found at survey
Cheap aluminium windows prices: what to check
Low headline prices for aluminium windows usually leave something out. Check whether the quote includes removal and disposal of the old frames, making good inside and out, building regulations certification, the glass specification and the colour you actually want. A supply-only price is not comparable with a fitted price.
Ask for the quote broken down per opening and compare the same specification from each company. Our guide to choosing a window company lists the questions worth asking.
Ways to keep the cost down
Not every window has to be aluminium. Some homeowners choose aluminium for a feature opening or a rear extension and uPVC elsewhere. Standard sizes and opening styles cost less than bespoke shapes, and doing all the windows at once is usually more efficient than one at a time.
If your current frames are sound and you mainly want a new colour, spraying them on site may be a better answer than replacement altogether.

Questions people ask
How much are aluminium windows?
It depends on the number and size of openings, opening style, glass, colour and access. We give a free survey and a written quote per opening so you see the figure for your own house.
Are aluminium windows worth the extra cost over uPVC?
They are worth it if you want slimmer frames, more glass or a contemporary look, particularly on wide openings. If those matter less, uPVC is the more economical choice, and we can price both.
Does a coloured aluminium frame cost more?
Aluminium frames are powder-coated, so colour is part of the finish. Choosing different colours inside and out can add to the cost; we show this in the written quote.
Is installation included in your aluminium windows price?
Yes. Our quotes are for supplied and fitted windows, written per opening after a free survey.
